The kith of Wildgrove

Every kind we have drawn so far, and how to meet each one.

Kith are the wild creatures of Wildgrove. You cannot catch a kith. You sit down near one, hold out a gift it likes, and wait. If it makes up its mind to trust you, it follows you home. Each kind lives on its own island and comes out at its own time of day. So who you meet depends on where you are and what hour it is.

Play Wildgrove
  1. Come at the right hourSome kith only come out at dawn. Some only after dark. The same meadow holds different kith at noon and at midnight.
  2. Give a gift, and waitEvery kind wants something different: a shiny pebble, a sip of dew — the water that sits on the grass at dawn — or just to be left alone for a minute.
  3. Let it chooseWhen a kith trusts you, that trust is called a bond. Then the two of you choose together: bring it home to your Grove — the garden you look after — or let it stay wild. Both answers are fine.
  4. Earn the next islandA new island opens when you finish a passage — a small job with a name, like making friends with 2 different kinds of kith, or making a friend after dark.

Blooming: how a kith grows up

When a kith grows up it blooms: it changes into a bigger shape. You cannot order a kith to bloom. It blooms when it is old enough and feels at home with you. It is still the same one afterward — same name, same markings, same little differences. Feed it, play with it, and wait.
